FeiyuTech WG2X – Unboxing

The unboxing experience is great in the box; we get a Styrofoam kind of box with cutouts for Gimbal, Mount and Mini Tripod. The box is good and can be used as a carrying case. Almost every action cam can fit in the box. But it is not helpful because it’s big and doesn’t have any secure lock and strap for carrying. We prefer the neoprene pouch of WG2 over this box.

Design and Construction

WG2X is featuring an ergonomic design with an angled arm for a better screen view. Angled arm also makes the gimbal easier to store. The design is relatively better than WG2 and also addresses the flaws of the previous generation.

The gimbal uses a three-motor design that allows a 360° range of motion in both the pan and tilt axis. The design is superior because other similar gimbals can only rotate up to 320°.

WG2 used to have a complete aluminium body, but Feiyu Tech has used a combo of aluminium and ABS, which reduces 27 grams of the total weight. Despite ABS, the body appears to be solid and sturdy.

FeiyuTech WG2X – Modes

Feiyu Tech WG2X is a great performer; it delivers incredibly stable footage. The gimbal has three modes that can be changed using the mode button on the gimbal or smartphone app. A LED on the gimbal makes it easy to find out which mode are you using.

Pan Mode: The gimbal will lock the horizontal and vertical levels and only moves in the pan axis, i.e. left and right. This mode is quite useful for action sports.

Following Mode: The gimbal will move in both pan and tilt axis to stabilize the video while the rotation remains locked.

Locked Mode: The third one is the locked mode; in this, the camera will maintain the selected direction and focus on the target. This mode is useful for vlogging.

WG2X also has a shutter button; it only works with GoPro because the main focus of Feiyu Tech is GoPro. In our tests, the shutter button doesn’t work on DJI Osmo and SJcam SJ8, SJ9.

Moreover, the ¼ inch universal thread mounting hole can easily be worn on Chest, Shoulder, Helmets etc. The gimbal can also be attached to a tripod or selfie stick for handheld usage.

FeiyuTech WG2X – Controls

Feiyu Tech WG2X is very easy to control; it has buttons with properly defined functions, or we can use the app to fine-tune the modes and functions.

Firstly, we have the mode button; it is used to toggle through the 3-shooting mode of the Gimbal by single, double and triple pressing.

Then we have the function button through which we can turn on and off the Wi-Fi. Moreover, we can select photo and recording mode as well, and triple-click will reset all the settings.

Lastly, there is a shutter button that can start and stop recording.

Feiyu ON

The Feiyu ON is an amazing and functional app; we can easily control the gimbal, adjust the angle, customize the speed of auto-rotation mode, change modes, update firmware etc.

Along with all these good things, there are a couple of drawbacks. The interface feels outdated, and there are some wordings that we can’t understand. Other than that, the app is amazing.

Feiyu Tech has placed a 1500mAh lithium-ion battery. It still has the old micro-USB port for charging. The battery life is around two and a half hours with Wi-Fi on. The battery takes two hours to charge up using a 5V charger.

WG2X is an excellent wearable gimbal, probably the best one in the market. It has all the functions and modes that a Gimbal needs; moreover, the GoPro and WG2X combo produce the greatest results.
